Types of Fish:

Argentina has a number of excellent fish to challenge and impress any angler. The dorado, salmon, trout, among other are truly unique and are well worth experiencing.

There are a number of different fish that are found in Argentina. Take a look on what you can have at the end of your line on your visit to the beautiful country.

Dorado

Known as "the river tiger", the dorado (Salminus Maxillosus), is the most exciting native fish in South America. It can be found in a good number of the country is rivers but the best specimens can be caught in the Parana River. The brave Dorado is a great challenge to any experienced fisherman and only surrenders after a long fight for its life. The normal weight is 20 to 35 pounds for 3.5 feet long specimens, but up to 56 pound dorados have been caught. There are other important species that can be caught such as the Manguruyu, the Suribi, Pacu and Boga.

Salmon

Salmon were brought from different parts of the world and it was found that Argentina has excellent conditions for acclimatization, especially in the Lake District in the Southwest of the country. They are now famous world-wide for their size and variety. The Southwest is not the only place to find them There are also bouts in the North, West and Center of Argentina

Trout

Rainbow trout (Salmo Galrdnerli), brown trout (micorcopterus Salmonldes), and brook trout (Saivellnus Fon Tanalis) are plentiful in Argentina.

Best Seasons to Fish:

Trolling - middle of November to the middle of April
Lake Fishing - November and December
Fly Casting - January to April.

Fishing in Patagonia

Landlocked salmon and golden dorado are also plentiful in Patagonia. Known as "the river tiger", the dorado is the most exciting native fish in South America.

Fishing near Buenos Aires

The main destination for fishing right near Buenos Aires is the Parana River Delta. A number of boats service the area and take passangers on private and group expeditions.

Corrientes, North of Buenos Aires

Located in the province of Corrientes, the Ibera Marshes have been declared a Provincial Natural Reserve. Tours often include sight fishing where anglers fish two per boat with one guide.

There is also great fishing at Esquina or on the Parana River Islands.

Fishing in Mar del Plata
